DIVING: Biggs stars at Luton Challenge

The 28th Luton Challenge hosted by Luton Diving Club and supported by Active Luton took place at Inspire: Sports Village recently.

The event is renowned for the one and only ‘Pairs Diving’ and this year’s competition didn’t disappoint with over 10 teams competing from all over the country including Olympic divers Jack Laugher and Chris Mears.

Luton Diving Club was well represented with 12 divers take part in all events across the three days as they held their own despite the strong competition with Henry Biggs on the 1m springboard.

He successfully made it through the preliminaries and into the 1m final going on to secure an excellent gold.

Others results for the club, saw Nat Connolly sixth in the 1m final and fifth in the platform final in the Boys group B, while in group D/E Hayden Wilkinson was sixth in the platform final.

In Girls group B, Grace Kouset was fourth in the 1m final, while group C saw Katie Burton fourth in the 1m final and sixth in the platform final, with Katherine Kerr claiming bronze in the 3m final.

The highlight of the weekend, the Pairs event, saw a spectacular show from team GB divers Laugher, Mears, Matthew Dixon, Shanice Lobb and Victoria Vincent with gold going to Laugher and Maddie Sweet setting a new Pairs score record.

Luton Diving Club were also in action at the Thistle Trophy Edinburgh last weekend, with some fine results secured by all who competed.

Results, Boys 8/9 year olds: 3, Joshua Bush; 7, Ludo Waterman; 16, Jordan Fisher-Eames.

Boys 10/11 year olds: 13, Oliwier Slinko ; 19, Enhakkorre Obeng.

Girls U7s: 4, Skye Fisher-Eames.

Girls 8/9 year olds: 17, Hannah Cundell; 22, Lucy Ralph; 23, Katie Foster.

3m PBs: Hayden Wilkinson and James Pollard.
