Dream start as Blane begins reign in Spain

Young Luton golfer Blane Breheny has been shining in Spain on the Gecko Pro Tour.

Competing in the Costa Del Sol area in a field of 70 European pros he triumphed at the Valle Romana Golf Club, from February 22-23, and finished second at the San Roque Golf Club, February 12-13.

Blane, who will be playing his first season on the Euro Pro Tour, said: “It is a dream start early in my professional career. I am looking forward to playing on the Euro Pro Tour around the UK this year. Hopefully if I progress I will play on the European Tour.”

The 21 year-old from Blenheim Crescent in Luton has been a member of Woburn Golf Club for the last three years and before that was at South Beds Golf Club.

He is a former Cardinal Newman School and Luton Sixth Form College student, while started playing golf at the age of eight.

Proud father Kevin said: “I first took him for Saturday golf lessons at Tee Green when he was eight and he joined South Beds when he was 10.”

Blane had played for the scratch teams at both Woburn and South Beds and has recently finished playing in five pro tournament as part of the Gecko Pro tour.

In the Euro Pro Tour there are three groups of 100 players who play in two qualifying rounds to reduce the number to 120 who will then compete in a total of 15 competitions throughout the UK.

On his hopes for the future, Blane added: “To play on the European Tour and to play in a Major Championship, ie the British Open.”
