Dunstable SC Retain the Natalie Barry Memorial Gala Trophy

They beat off competition from Bourne End, Bletchley and Letchworth over the 45 events to claim victory.

Dunstable achieved an incredible 15 first places in the gala, 12 seconds and eight thirds, as a number of swimmers set some excellent personal bests.

Head Coach Tim Hutton said: “All the swimmers put in a fantastic effort to win the gala! The team spirit was exceptional with all parents and swimmers on the edge of their seats throughout the gala. A great team gala to kick off the season.”

After 10 events Dunstable were on 39 points, only two points ahead of closest rivals Bletchley on 37, but had stretched 11 points clear on 68 by the 18th event.

Dunstable proceeded to swim away from their opponents as they claimed victory on 160 points, with Bletchley second on 139, Letchworth third with 133, Bourne End fourth on 128 points and Bletchley IIs fifth with 67 points.

Bletchley vice chair Anne Minihan added: “Many Congratulations to Dunstable Swimming Club for retaining the trophy again this year, and we hope to see you all again next year.”

Dunstable compete at the Flitwick Open today.
