End of an era at Bath Road pool

IT was the end of an era at Wardown Leisure Centre as the last ever Borough Championships were held at the venue on Saturday, before the action transfers to the new Aquatics centre in 2013.

Over 100 swimmers from across the borough, including from two primary schools, five high schools and a team from Luton Sixth Form College, braved the arctic weather to mark the occasion.

The competitors duly rose to the occasion and, with good support from the balcony, put in some great performances.

The female 100m breaststroke was a close affair where Zoe Smith and Nicola Jesson went head-to-head, before Smith touched out Jesson to win the trophy.
