The visitors were in early control when BJ Christie headed home a Newman Carney cross.

AFC came close again soon afterwards, Nathan Frater’s fine header well saved, while Josh Humbert’s close-range poke was cleared off the line.

Frater then tested the home keeper on 35 minutes, but poke at goal was cleared off the line, before five minutes later they had a second, Christie and Josh Humbert linking well for Jermaine Hall to volley home.

In the second half, Harefield were back in the game on 55 minutes with a superb Dojon Desagurante strike from 20 yards.

AFC had to tweak their back line, as Jason Beck suffered a dead leg and was replaced by Danny Jones.

Quelling what the Hares could muster though, AFC had breathing space on 7 5 minutes when Hall rode two tackles to cross for Humbert to bundle home from close range.

This eased the nerves and when Courtney Massay sprung forward from right back six minutes later, he fired home to make it 4-1.

Boss Steve Heath said: “While we needed to get back to winning ways, this was not going to be an easy affair.

“Like midweek (3-2 defeat to Codicote), we pretty much dominated the first half and when Harefield scored 10 minutes into the second half, I thought ‘oh no here we go again.’
