Three times AFC Dunstable came from behind as they triumphed 5-4 at Pitstone & Ivinghoe with a last-minute winner in the first round of the Molten Spartan SML Challenge Trophy on Saturday.

Goals after two and five minutes from Mark Burfoot and Lee Peck put the hosts ahead, but AFC levelled thanks to strikes from BJ Christie (10) and Richard Harker (24).

Twice Pitstone went ahead through Harry Elliott (31) and Mitchell Hamilton (40) only for AFC to level via Craig Butler’s 38th-minute penalty and 55th-minute strike.

And Dunstable snatched victory in the 90th-minute through Connor Smith, to which their hosts had no response.

AFC boss Alex Butler said: “We knew Pitstone, who were undefeated in their league, would be a threat, and our players were warned beforehand not to treat them lightly.

“Without question we defended poorly, but I would prefer to take the positives, we responded well to being behind and have got ourselves through to the next round.

“Recently we have found ourselves bullied, it’s a problem we have been aware of since the season started and we may now need to go looking for a leader and a big presence if we are to stand up to some of the tougher more physical league sides.”

AFC go to Leverstock Green on Tuesday and entertain London Tigers on Saturday.
