Tom Joseph fired the hosts into the lead on 36 minutes, only for Courtney Massey to level on the stroke of half time.

Christie missed a penalty on 65 minutes and the hosts took full advantage with goals from Elliott Darby (66) and Ashley Kelynack (72) and Tom Peddle-James in stoppage time to secure victory.

Caretaker manager Kevin Taylor said: “AFC went into the game with five senior first team players injured, four of which started against Luton.

“However, this was still a game AFC should have won. On the day the game come down to penalties.

“The one they scored which should never have been given, the one we missed which would have put us in front, but instead from the rebound they managed to carry the ball the whole length of the pitch and take the lead themselves.

“Two minutes after Holmer took the lead BJ Christie was again fouled for what was a stonewall penalty, but somehow the officials didn’t see it – the only ones in the whole of Holmer Green by all accounts!

“After that poor decision we struggled to pick ourselves up and Holmer took full advantage.”

AFC are now in transition which takes time, we are working hard behind the scenes to bring in a few more faces to help freshen things up and give us a lift. With the players we have and quality of players we are looking to bring in we are confident we can turn things round and will look to do that against a decent Tring side next week.

This Saturday AFC host Tring Athletic and on Tuesday go to St Margaretsbury.

Attendance: 38.
