SSML Premier Division: Sun Sports 0 AFC Dunstable 3
AFC Dunstable took a huge step towards the SSML Premier Division title after a weekend where results couldn’t have gone any better for them.
Steve Heath’s side held their end of the bargain up, winning 3-0 at Sun Sports, while then saw nearest rivals London Colney lose 3-1 at home to second bottom Harefield United, with third placed Hoddesdon Town held to a 1-1 draw at Tring Athletic.
That saw AFC take full advantage as they moved five points clear of Colney, while still with a game in hand.
They also extended the gap on Hoddesdon to 13 points, despite having played three matches more.
Heath made one change from the OD’s 2-0 win over Hadley on Wednesday night, where BJ Christie netted twice as Terry Griffiths and Bill Morgan swapped places.
The visitors were ahead after just 18 minutes as Christie clinically finished to add yet another goal to his impressive tally this term.
AFC continued to keep hold of possession for long periods as they went searching for a second.
It arrived 11 minutes later too when Josh Humbert set up Jermaine Hall who slotted the ball home.
After the break, the hosts found it hard to get the ball off of the OD’s players as a number of shots reined in on Sun’s goal.
The only way that Sports might have pulled one back, would be if AFC let their concentration slip, whichi happened on 68 minutes, only to see Ricky Perks quick off this line to deny them.
Youngster Jake Kissiedu was introduced in the 90th minute and made an instant impact, beating three defenders to set up Christie for his 46th of the season.
Boss Heath said: “I thought we controlled the game well.
“I was slightly concerned when we took our foot off the gas after our second goal, but apart from that 15 minutes we were pretty much on top.”
AFC are at home to Berkhamsted last night and then visit Hertford Town on Friday evening.
