AFC hold Hatters to share David Preece Memorial Trophy

AFC Dunstable completed their pre-season schedule with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against a Luton Town XI in the David Preece Memorial Trophy on Friday night.

Hosts boss Steve Heath handed 17-year-old Jake Kissiedu with his U18 team-mate playing the second half.

Visiting Luton picked a youthful side, although first team pros Frankie Musonda and Liam Gooch started.

A tight first half saw Josh Humbert go close as his header came back off the bar.

Heath then made six changes after the break, as the visitors began to get on top.

They had the better of the play and it was only a couple of last ditch tackles, plus Ricky Perks’ excellent save that kept them out.

However, AFC regained the ascendancy as both sides started to squander glorious chances.

Firstly, good work from BJ Christie set up Terry Griffiths at the far post but Gooch kept out his shot.

Town then missed a superb opening of their own, as after rounding Perks, the strike missed an open goal.

With virtually the last kick, an AFC trialist headed wide of the gaping goal as the trophy was shared.

After taking on Hichin and Hemel prior to the game, Heath said: “That is three top teams we have played in six days and I have learnt a lot about the players.
