Two goals in either half saw Barton Rovers whimper to a first defeat of the season as they lost 4-0 at Slough Town in Calor Southern League Division One Central on Saturday.

Jonnie Dyer (25 and 60) led the way with a brace, while Wes Harrison (13) and Darren Wheeler (75) were also on target.

Rovers manager Dan Kennoy was disappointed with his team’s performance, saying: “I don’t expect to lose any game in this league 4-0.

“Every single player in the squad has at least a season’s experience at this level or higher and they should know to expect a tough game when they come to places like Slough, but too many of us didn’t turn up today.

“To give up an eight-game unbeaten run in this manner is very disappointing.”

Rovers were without the suspended Nat Peacock who was serving the first of his three-match ban as well as Kyle Forster who was on holiday.

The Rebels took the lead on 13 minutes when a long throw took Ashley Grinham and Liam McDevitt out of the game and left Harrison through on goal who drilled past Grant Beckwith in the Rovers goal.

Rovers skipper Tommy Hull was then forced off by injury and was replaced with Jermaine Hall before Slough’s second arrived in controversial circumstances.

Ed Smith looked clearly offside as he galloped on to a long ball forward and Dyer gambled on the officials’ mistake and took full advantage to make it 2-0.

Kennoy’s half time rallying call last little more than 10 minutes as Slough got a bizarre third through Dyer on the hour when Beckwith failed to deal with a cross.

And Slough sealed victory on 75 minutes when Wheeler drifted towards the far post to score after a quick switch of play found.
