Barton too strong for Slough

Rovers pulling clear of drop zone

Barton Rovers’ rollercoaster of a season continued as they beat Zamaretto League Division One Central play-off hopefuls Slough Town at Sharpenhoe Road 2-0 on Tuesday night.

The hosts bounced back from Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Hayes, after Russell Bull had given Rovers an early lead, with a fine victory.

Bull fired into the side-netting in the opening moments and Ricky Case sliced wide.

Several Slough set pieces were nullified by brave headers from captain Paul Andrews and another outstanding display from keeper Richard Wilmot.

The Blues led 1-0 at the break thanks to George Brinkman’s rasping 39th-minute drive.

Barton upped a gear after the interval with Rob Bullivant producing a brilliant tip over to deny Case but Blues doubled their lead when Colm Keirans rolled back the years with a magnificent turn and low shot.

A great effort from Bilal Hassan was saved by Bullivant, while Case hit an excellent chance high over the bar.

Rovers held on though as the centre-back pairing of Andrews and Andrew Iwediuno shared the man of the match award.

This Saturday, Barton travel to Marlow.
