Southern League Premier Division: Chippenham Town 4 Dunstable Town 1
Dunstable Town suffered a heavy defeat to promotion-chasing Chippenham Town at the weekend, going down to a 4-1 loss.
On a wet and windy afternoon, the visitors were without Luke Pennell, John Frendo and Adam Pepera as the Bluebirds, who beat Dunstable 2-1 on the opening day, began well, Paul Bastock saving from Alex Ferguson twice.
The hosts then won a penalty on 23 minutes when Steven Gregory was adjudged to have handballed, with Andy Sandell converting from the spot.
Chippenham kept pressing as Michael Pook’s header was held by Bastock as Dunstable only threatened through Victor Osobu’s tame effort.
The Blues then lost influential defender James Kaloczi, who was taken off after suffering double vision, with Gary Wharton on, but they then fell 2-0 behind as Ferguson netted moments before the break.
After the break, Chippenham had a third when James Guthrie was left unmarked to score just four minutes in.
Faced with a mountain to climb, a spirited Dunstable tried to find a way back as a good passing move between Connor Calcutt, Wharton and David Keenleyside saw skipper Greg Tindle put through his own net.
The visitors then pushed for a second, but were caught on the break as Sandell beat the offside trap to confidently finish past Bastock on 85 minutes.
Dunstable are due to host Histon tomorrow night.
