After losing 3-0 to Ampthill Town on Saturday, Blues were looking to prove a point in their latest pre-season friendly and they did just that.

In front of 146 at Creasey Park, Blues started well as Matt Nolan headed straight at Haydn Dodge.

Adam Watkins also shot straight at the keeper, and Stephen O’Leary tested Dodge too, while former Luton Town forward Ryan Charles came close for Hitchin,

Blues took the lead when Ryan Frater’s attempted clearance was picked up by Lee Roache and he calmly fired home.

In the second half, Watkins had another attempt blocked before the hosts made a number of changes.

Leon Cashman entered the fray and he doubled the lead in spectacular style as competing with Roache, he finished well.

Michael King came close for the Canaries but shot wide, before Dunstable almost had a third when Cashman and Roache combined once more, but this time Roache blazed over.

Further changes were made, but Dunstable remained in control and made it 3-0 when Roache and Chris Marsh fed Nolan who applied the finish.

Hitchin still tried to find a way back into the game, but Sam Barker’s low shot lacked in power.

Tony Fontanelle then grabbed the fourth with 77 minutes gone as he burst through a challenge before instinctively firing into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Town are in action this weekend when they travel to Bedford Town.

Meanwhile, Blues keeper Paul Taylor has retired after 635 appearances for the club.
