Dunstable Town were held to a goalless draw by Chesham United in their Southern League Premier Division clash at the weekend.

All rivalry was put aside before the match as the planned tribute to Dunstable Town youth player Ethan Houghton was respectfully observed.

The club’s youth teams stood with admirable politeness and patience as referee Stuart Cheek led the teams out and there was a minute’s applause to honour Ethan and those of his family who died with him in the tragic road accident last week.

Dunstable made one change, with David Keenleyside returning to the side at the expense of Wilson Ferreira, who was on the substitutes’ bench, along with David Longe-King who had completed his single match suspension.

A tentative start to the match saw both sides struggle to create anything clear-cut, with home keeper Jack Smith tested from crosses, while Adam Moussi sent his shot well over the top.

Chesham went close again as Ryan Blake’s effort was well saved by Smith, before Adam Martin was inches away and then Dave Pearce shot wide too.

Former Luton Town youngster Brett Longden sent one cross off target as Pearce then should have opened the scoring, only to inexplicably miss the target.

Town striker Alex Cathline had one shot blocked and then set up Jack Hutchinson who saw his effort crash against the base of the post with keeper Ashlee Jones wrong-footed.

Dunstable had to clear off the line when Jack Smith was caught out of position, but Adam Pepera covered adequately as both side had to make do with a share of the spoils.

The Blues visit Hayes & Yeading this weekend and then host Hitchin Town on Bank Holiday Monday.
