Burnett brace bags it for the Blues

Molten Spartan SML Premier Division: Dunstable Town 2 Tring Athletic 0

Dunstable Town beat Tring Athletic 2-0 on Tuesday night as they closed on the Molten Spartan SML Premier Division title.

Tony Burnett’s brace did the business at Creasey Park, while main rivals Oxhey Jets could only draw 1-1 at St Margaretsbury.

Tring played a stubborn defensive game, clearly looking to steal a point on a freezing night.

Dunstable enjoyed the greater share of possession and dominated the game.

Burnett opened the scoring after 13minutes, but the visitors failed to come at Town, managing just one shot on target.

Meanwhile, the Blues went close on a number of occasions with Nick Jackson hitting the post, while Lee Roache and Nathan Frater were a constant threat.

Dunstable’s free-flowing football only brought one more goal when Burnett’s fierce drive from the edge of the area sealed the points for the Blues who stretched their unbeaten run to 27 games.

Town travel to Oxhey’s Boundary Park Stadium on Saturday for a vital league meeting against the league’s second-place club.

Blues: Taylor, Fontanelle (Pickering), Mead, Deaton, Leach, Carney, Olalaye, Jackson (Christie), Roache, Frater, Burnett (Buchanan).
