A second half goal from Alex Cathline was enough for Dunstable Town to triumph against Southern League Division One Central opponents Egham Town on Saturday.

The hosts had a side that contained a few new faces, with Connor Calcutt returning from last year too, as Cathline went close early on, as did Jack Hutchinson and Adam Moussi.

Egham had a sight of goal that flew wide, as Dunstable remained on the front foot, with Hutchinson’s effort deflected behind and Zack Reynolds unable to pick out a team-mate after his surging run.

Hutchinson was denied by the keeper once more, with Gary Wharton’s shot on the turn lacking venom as Moussi also shot straight at the visiting custodian.

After the break, Dunstable broke the deadlock just two minutes in, when Cathline produced a neat finish.

Blues keeper Jamie Head saved easily from a rare Egham foray forward, while Dunstable did get the ball in the net late on, but it was ruled out for offside.

Dunstable host Oxford City at Creasey Park tomorrow night, kick-off 7.45 pm.
