It was a match between two sides sitting just below the frontrunners in the table, and even though there were no goals, they dished up an entertaining contest.

The fuse was lit as early as the first minute when Jets’ striker Sean Giordmaina tested Louie Lobjoit in the Crawley Green goal with a shot from the right side of the penalty area. A minute later, the same player was put through and shot over, although he did look offside.

As the players adapted well to the tricky conditions, the Maroons created danger with a corner that was punched clear by ‘keeper Matt Evans. But at the other end, confusion between ‘keeper Lobjoit and Andre Elliott almost let in Andrew Lopes, only for the ball to be hacked clear by Chris Crook.

Lobjoit very much redeemed himself towards the end of the first half, though, as he pulled off a spectacular, one-handed save to push a scorching shot from Lopes over the bar.

Crawley Green created more openings in the second half when both Danny Watson and Sam Holmes had shots saved. And just after the hour, Watson raced clear, only for ‘keeper Evans to save well.

Jets then mounted some sustained pressure and, in the 71st minute, they won a corner, from which Tom Gibson headed over the bar.

The final chance of the match came five minutes from the end when Lopes unleashed what appeared to be an unstoppabe shot for the hosts, but Lobjoit was again equal to it with another tremendous stop.

The result kept the Maroons seventh in the table, with Jets just above them in sixth. Crawley Green are without a fixture this weekend.
