Cuthbert has no fear of dropping out of play-offs

Town’s third successive draw on Tuesday night at struggling Newport County saw the Hatters just three points above eighth placed Blackpool, who visit Kenilworth Road at the start of April.

However, when asked if he was worried about being caught by the likes of the Tangerines, Cuthbert quickly said: “No, not at all, we’re a good enough side that we know we can stay in that play-off place and keep on pushing for those automatic promotion spots.

“We’re not looking behind, we’re looking up. Every game we go into we want to win, we’re a positive side, that’s how we set up.

“We want to win games, want to get three points and no we’re looking up not looking down.

“We’re remaining positive, there’s eight games to go, it’s a good run in for us and anything can happen.

“We’ve got to win as many games as we can, keep looking up and you just never know.”

Cuthbert knew it was a great opportunity missed to really make inroads into Portsmouth’s advantage in midweek though, as the gap to third is five points with just eight games left.

He continued: “It was our game in hand, it’s a difficult place to come, the pitch is in a bad condition, we knew it was going to like that, knew it was going to be a battle, and we felt like we had to get three points to close the gap on Portsmouth and we’ve not done that.

“We’re bit dejected in there, maybe at the end with that last minute chance (from Ollie Palmer), if that had gone in it would have changed it and been a great away performance, but it’s small margins at the moment and just never quite went with us.

“The pitch doesn’t help, but that’s not an excuse. We couldn’t play the football we normally do, and you’ve got to go long to Ollie, Hylts (Danny Hylton) and Vass (Isaac Vassell) and was a difficult 90 minutes, but all in all we’re disappointed to draw the game.
