Derby County keeper ready to learn with Luton

The 21-year-old Derby County stopper penned a temporary deal until the end of the season after Hatters’ number one Mark Tyler returned to former club Peterborough United.

Speaking after his home debut at the weekend, in which Luton were somehow beaten 1-0 by Crawley Town, Mitchell said: “I’m really happy to be here, gain some experience and hopefully add to the team.

“I want to have a good career, and you’ve got to start somewhere, so I’m very proud to be playing here, and hopefully I can help the team out.

“I’ve really enjoyed it since I’ve been here, I’ve got a lot of experience in front of me, helping me out and it’s a great team.”

Town boss Nathan Jones is a huge admirer of Mitchell and admitted in his ‘Meet the Manager’ event on Tuesday night, he would love to sign him for the Hatters permanently.

On whether he had considered his long-term future yet, Mitchell said: “Not really, I take every day and every game as it comes, I don’t think in football you can look too far ahead at all.

“So it’s just the next training session, train as well as you can, next game, play as well as you can.

“Hopefully I can help the lads out, gain some experience and have a really good push until the end of the season.”

Mitchell had been signed on the Friday before the recent trip to Leyton Orient and only met his team-mates in the hotel before 
being thrown straight in against the O’s, keeping a clean sheet during the 1-0 win.

He admitted it was a real boost to his confidence to be included straight away, continuing: “It happened quite quickly, I found out on the Friday I was coming for the game on the Saturday.

“Mark Tyler was a legend at Peterborough and Luton, so it takes a bit for the manager to go with a young goalie with no real experience.

“I know I’ve played one game in the FA Cup, but it was my league debut last week, so I was really honoured that the gaffer has chosen me to play.”
