Dunstable Town claimed a controversial 3-1 derby victory over nine-man Aylesbury United on Saturday to stay second in Calor Southern League Division One Central.

A total of 10 players were cautioned and Aylesbury’s assistant manager also dismissed, as the Blues recovered from the early setback of conceding a goal to Stacey Field to go on and win comfortably.

Director of football John McLoughlin said: “I feel that this was our best three points of the season as Aylesbury United were obviously instructed to kick us off the park and we coped tremendously, hence the two lads being sent off and, in my opinion three, should have walked.

“Moses Olaleye again was strong and their players could not match him and he kept his cool tremendously well.

“Lee Roache again terrorised their centre-halves and the whole team somewhere within the match felt the force of Aylesbury’s tactics.

“The pitch was a disgrace for this level and the home fans should be ashamed of their behaviour after the match, but we won’t be bullied or pushed off the ball and this shows the talent we have at Dunstable.

“We have options everywhere now. This win was vital to keep on a run and stay on track.”

The direct Ducks took the lead on 13 minutes when a swift counter on to a long clearance left Dunstable’s defence stranded and Field found the bottom right corner.

Town looked to play the more intricate football on a heavy, mud-laden pitch that was hard work for both teams.

The visitors were well contained until the stroke of half time Chris Marsh’s fine free-kick was glanced home by top scorer Lee Roache.

The Blues started to take control in the second half and took the lead 10 minutes in when Nathan Frater perfectly placed his free-kick beyond the grasp of on-loan keeper Alex Tokarczyk.

Dunstable pressed further to extend their lead with as Roache, Tony Burnett and Marsh spurned good chances before the game took an unsavoury turn when Richard Armstrong was show a straight red for retaliation and shortly after Ducks skipper Jack Wood was also dismissed for a second yellow card.

The controversy gave the game a scrappy edge as Dunstable secured victory 10 minutes from time through midfielder Adam Watkins’ goal.

Both sides had chances and efforts cleared off the line as Dunstable’s superior numbers told.
