Dunstable boss ready for busy week

After their dramatic victory against Hungerford last week, Dunstable travel to Stratford Town this afternoon ahead of a fixture heavy week for the Blues.

Once the Stratford game is played, Tony Fontenelle’s side travel to Redditch on Monday, Kettering on Thursday and then host Cirencester on Saturday, with Fontenelle labelling it the “the be all or end all of our season.’

He said: “It will be a very tough week for the lads, to be playing three games in five days all away from home.

“If we can get a return of anything near six points then I will be totally over the moon, but ultimately we could be coming away with zero, so let’s just get Saturday out the way first.”

The Blues’ take on a Stratford side who are all but safe, however they cannot mathematically qualify for the play-offs either, although Fontenelle doesn’t think that because the pressure isn’t necessarily on Carl Adams’ side, they won’t be a difficult opponent.

He continued: “When you’re playing football with no pressure, it’s a very different game. Their lads may try things that they wouldn’t necessarily try if it was a pressure game and it can work in their favour.

“They had a fantastic result last Saturday (beating Poole Town away 2-1), but I am hoping with the amount of games they have had to play in five days, it will have taken its toll and we will be a little bit fresher after our game was called off on Monday.”

Dunstable Town also find themselves in a slightly awkward situation, with the Blues currently 11 points off the play-offs, but have three games in hand over Hungerford, who currently occupy the final slot.

Fontenelle added: “This league is very, very tight. As much as we would like to look up, we are only three points off 15th, yes we have got games in hand, but it doesn’t mean anything if you don’t make them count.

“Mathematically we have got that opportunity (to move within two points of the play-offs) and if we are sitting here next week nine points better off, then obviously we’ll be looking at the league table, so anything is possible.”
