Dunstable edge past St Margaretsbury

SML Premier Division St Margaretsbury 1 Dunstable Town 2

DUNSTABLE Town notched a 2-1 victory at St Margaretsbury to stay in contention at the top of Molten Spartan SML Premier on Saturday.

Town took a deserved lead on 15 minutes when Saints full-back Ed Taylor unwittingly played Lee Roache onside and the in-form striker finished precisely.

Keeper Paul Taylor was forced to produce two outstanding saves before defender Joseph Bruce conceded a 20th-minute penalty, which was entirely wasted by Ricky Light who shot straight at Taylor.

Dunstable doubled their lead early in the second half when substitute George Brinkman was presented with a simple tap-in following robust work on the right by Nathan Frater.

The result was thrown into doubt when Taylor was adjudged to have stamped on an opponent and was instantly dismissed as the home side were awarded a second penalty late on.

Light netted from the spot, but the win keeps Dunstable second on goal difference behind arch rivals Royston Town, who won 2-1.

Dunstable travel to Tring tomorrow night.
