Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division: Dunstable Town 3 Frome Town 2

Dunstable Town held on for their second victory of the season despite a late fight back from Frome Town at the weekend.

Leading 3-0 going into the final 10 minutes, Frome netted twice to set up a nervy finale, but the Blues prevailed to climb to 20th in the table.

Dunstable had to change goalkeepers with Paul Bastock suspended as Danzelle St Louis- Hamilton took his place, while Victor Osobu returned, as did Adam Watkins, although both Chris Marsh and Shane Blackett were injured.

Early on, Frome had threatened through Tyler Sibbick as St Louis-Hamilton saved well, but the pace of Osobu saw Dunstable break well at times too.

Jemale McKenzie-Lowe fired wide and Osobu had an effort blocked, before the hosts were in front when Steven Gregory headed home Keenelyside’s corner on 20 minutes.

Osobu was then thwarted by visiting keeper Darren Chitty who made an excellent save at the expense of a corner.

Frome saw Darren Jefferies and Liam Monelle combine well until skipper James Kaloczi intervened, while St Louis-Hamilton prevented both Jefferies and Joe Tumelty from levelling.

McKenzie-Lowe drew a goods top from Chitty, but Dunstable made it 2-0 after half an hour when some superb vision from Danny Talbot played in Adam Watkins who deftly chipped the advancing Chitty.

In the second period, Frome showed they weren’t out of the contest as Monelle’s glancing header was well saved.

However, Dunstable looked to increase their advantage as Watkins had a shot blocked by Jack Hutchings, as the hosts brought on Matt Nolan and Gary Wharton.

The third goal soon arrived too on 72 minutes when Talbot was found by Nolan and a measured pass set up Wharton who finished with aplomb.

However, with 16 minutes to go, Frome pulled one back as Sibbick pulled one back, although there was a hint of offside about his strike.

Dunstable almost scored again when Wharton fired wide, before it was 3-2 on 82 minutes as Monelle netted.

However, Blues held on in stoppage time to earn a first victory since August 18 and now entertain Kingstonian in the FA Cup this weekend.
