The former Leeds United and Nottingham Forest chief was brought in as manager Nathan Jones’ number two last month and took his place in the dug out for the final game against Exeter City.

Before agreeing to take the role though, Hart had certain questions he wanted answered about the club’s plans going forward and when they were received, he was more than happy to come aboard.

The 63-year-old said: “I asked him (Nathan Jones), what the attendance was like, support was like and got big ups on everything.

“About the team too. What we’re going to do, can we fill the ground? I asked those questions and was answered, ‘yes, very definitely.’

“Of course I had meetings with Gary (Sweet, chief executive) about what’s happening further down the line and was really excited to hear some of the news there.

“It was all very positive in terms of a progressive club.

“I’m getting on a bit now, but I never want to stand still, I want to be challenged and be part of an environment that’s going to lead to better things.”

Hart knows there is hard work ahead over the summer though in terms of formulating a squad that can challenge for promotion to League One next term.

Although he has gained plenty of contacts within the game, during his 46-year career, Hart knows Jones will rightly have the final say.

He added: “We very definitely want success and to produce a side that can win on a regular basis.

“I’m sure he’ll be working over time over the summer months to enable us to have a team that can push forward.

“There’s an awful lot of planning gone on already, but just like all the managers’ staff, we’ve all got things, people we know, but the manager’s got the last decision.”
