Hatters boss explains Guttridge exit

The 33-year-old left Kenilworth Road on Tuesday after cancelling his contract, which was due to expire at the end of the campaign, by mutual consent.

Guttridge made 74 appearances, scoring 19 times for the club after joining in the summer of 2013, but had been restricted to just 11 games this term.

He hadn’t even been on the bench for Jones’ first game in charge against Cambridge United as the boss said: “Luke has been a fantastic servant from the club, he’s done really well, I know him, from playing against him and from watching games.

“In the immediate future, Luke would have been part of what we were doing, but with the squad, it’s far too big and with similar types of players, I spoke to Luke, I was honest with Luke.

“He’s at an age where he wants to play, I couldn’t guarantee him that, but in terms of his future, he can go now and maybe secure a longer term contract.

“He trained well when he was in there with him and I wish him all the best.”
