The 21-year-old, who played on loan for Luton during the 2014-15 season, had been on trial at Kenilworth Road recently, featuring in the 9-0 win over Bedford Town on Saturday.

However, he wasn’t in the squad for last night’s 1-0 defeat to National League side Boreham Wood as Jones said: “It was a bit of a convenience thing for us with Lewis to be fair, he’s a local boy, was looking to train and we ran an eye over him as well.

“But I don’t think it’s an area we’re looking to strengthen at the minute as we have cover there. The two (Dan) Potts and (Alan) Sheehan can play there, while the two young lads we have are not far off as well.”

Former Plymouth Argyle attacker Isaac Vassell, who was released by Truro City in the summer did play again though, as Jones confirmed he were still considering offering the 22-year-old a permanent contract.

He added: “Yes, definitely, we wouldnt have kept him with us if we weren’t.

“He’s one that’s come on our radar, done quite well in training. We’re interested, the more time he spends with us the better he’ll be, so we’ll see where we are in the next few days with him.”
