Hatters rated v York City

Stephen O’Donnell: 6 - Awful backpass gifted York a way back into the game, but the defender showed character to quickly put that out of his mind, combining brilliantly with Green to set up Marriott for the second.

Jake Howells: 6 - Neat and tidy in possession as always, but it was down Luton’s right hand where all the action was. Wasn’t on the same page as Sheehan in trying to play offside for York’s second.

Alan Sheehan: 6 - Couldn’t really get Luton going in the first half as he has done in previous games. Efforts to play offside went awry as York made it 2-2, before nasty collision with the post ended his afternoon in the closing stages.

Scott Cuthbert: 6 - Too many long and hopeful balls in the first half that proved easy for York to clear as Luton couldn’t get any kind of attacking move going. Won’t be happy with the manner in which both goals were conceded either.

Alex Lawless: 6 - Attempted to keep things moving in the middle during a mind-numbing first half. Replaced after the break though when the fun was just about to get started.

Olly Lee: 8 - Was the one player who had really stood out as Town struggled badly in the opening period as he at least looked to get on the ball. Mazy run and unerring finish in stoppage time for the winner will live long in the memory though.

Danny Green: 7.5 - Another who really came into his own during the second period, linking up superbly with O’Donnell at times on the right flank. Excellent corner started it all too for McGeehan to head home as he was to have big impact.

Cameron McGeehan: 7.5 - Popped up again with his 12th of an superb debut full season for the Hatters. Becoming Luton’s answer to Frank Lampard with his timing of runs into the box. An invaluable commodity to have.

Jack Marriott: 6.5 - Didn’t look at ease with his wide role in the first half, but no surprise that his best work was done in the centre when the game was stretched. Produced a superb back-heeled finish to reach double figures for the campaign.

Joe Pigott: 5 - Once again had a thankless task in the first period as a hugely below par Luton went too long with Pigott no match for York’s imposing central defenders. Struggled after the break too and replaced by Mackail-Smith.

Jonathan Smith (SUB): 6 - On for the last half hour to add plenty of legs as Hatters tried to make sure they won the midfield battle.

Craig Mackail-Smith (SUB): 6.5 - Wonderful run to draw the defender away for Lee to score his winner and was only denied himself by a marvellous block moments earlier.

Magnus Okuonghae (SUB): 6 - Replaced Sheehan for the last few minutes as Luton came strong to win.
