The 30-year-old centre half was released by the U’s recently after captaining them to promotion from League Two, making 51 appearances in all competitions.

Mullins played 116 times in total for Oxford and previously led Rotherham United out of League Two as well, while also having spells at Stockport, Mansfield and Kidderminster earlier in his career.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Mullins said: “I’m over the moon to be here. When a club like Luton gave me a call, it was a no brainer.

“I wanted to join, I’m here to achieve promotion, and hopefully to play in League One with Luton.

On his position, Mullins continued: “I’m a centre half, I like to play out when I can but it’s defence first with me.

“I’ve come here to get promoted and to play in front of some top-drawer fans.

“I’m chuffed to bits to be signing for Luton, and hopefully come the end of the season we’ll all be smiling.”

Town boss Nathan Jones added: “I’m delighted that Johnny has joined us. He has experience of achieving promotion from League Two with both Oxford United last season and Rotherham United previously, during which he captained both clubs.

“Johnny is exactly the type of player and character I want at our club, he is a real leader and will be a big influence within our dressing room.

“The signing of Johnny massively improves our squad, he is a winner and he wants to continue to improve and get better here at Luton Town.”
