The Youth Academy and Development manager led Luton to a 2-0 home defeat against Wycombe Wanderers this afternoon, after winning at Exeter City last weekend.

When quizzed about the job after today’s loss though, Awford said: “I haven’t applied for the job. The club have advertised it, I haven’t applied, but if somebody here wanted to do something with me, then they know where I am.

“If they wanted that, we would have to talk, but at the moment it’s not something I’m looking at.

“It’s game by game for me, I’ve never said I wanted it. I’ve loved my time here, with John (Still) leaving they needed someone to lead it.

“They asked me, I’m privileged to do it and I’ll continue to do it as long as the club want me to do it.”

Awford is 8/1 with the bookmakers BetVictor for the permanent role, as clear favourite David James was an interested onlooker this afternoon.

The former Pompey boss added: “I think Jamo’s here anyway, he comes to a lot of games as he lives local, but I haven’t even looked at the odds.

“You’re asking someone who’s not in the know, you’ll have to ask Gary (Sweet, chief executive).

“If they want me to do it on a permanent basis then we’d have to sit down and talk but at the moment I haven’t even thought about it. It’s game by game and all about trying to get the best out of that squad.”
