Luton Town will face West Ham United U21s in the Checkatrade Trophy second round stage at Kenilworth Road next week.
The Hammers only had to pick up a draw in their final group match at Wycombe Wanderers last night to top the group, but went down 2-0 to the Chairboys, dropping back second, as they were leapfrogged by Swindon.
West Ham had won 3-1 at Bristol Rovers and 3-2 at Swindon to finish with six points, while Luton reached the summit in their group after beating AFC Wimbledon and then enjoying penalty shoot out wins over Barnet and Tottenham U21s.
U21s boss Terry Westley told the club’s official website: “We have to be positive to start with – we have gone through.
“Setting the stall out at the start of the season you ask ‘can you go a step further than last year and qualify through the groups?’ So it’s a really good achievement, we must not forget that.
“To be one of three (U21) teams to go through to the last-32 is a big achievement for the players at the club.
The game will take place on Tuesday, December 5 at Kenilworth Road, kick-off 7.45pm.
