No Hatters deal for Zola

Striker Calvin Zola won’t be offered a deal with Luton Town according to manager John Still.

The former Crewe, Burton and Stevenage striker turned out for the Hatters in pre-season, but despite scoring the winner against Brentford in a friendly, Still has decided not to pursue the situation.

He said: “We haven’t progressed with Calvin, nothing’s going to happen there.”

Meanwhile, there were no definite decisions on the future of either midfielder Olly Lee or striker Mustafa Tiryaki yet as Still continued: “Olly wasn’t doing anything, so he’s played for me before, he knows some people here with Pelly (Ruddock Mpanzu) and (Dan) Potts for West Ham, we just got him in, but we haven’t done anything there.

“Tiryaki is much of the same, we haven’t done anything at the moment with him. He’s injured right now too, so we’ll just wait until he’s fit.”

With the transfer window closing in just over three weeks, Still confirmed he wasn’t looking at any more signings, although would never rule out making a move should the right player become available.

He said: “From a club point of view, when we sit down and talk, we always say, if something comes along that we think we need to do, we would look at that situation and judge it on its merits.

“Are we looking particularly at the moment? No we’re not. But if something, like lots of clubs, came up that we thought maybe we need to do this, then maybe we would do it.”

It’s been a busy summer for Still too, with 11 new signings and 15 exits from Kenilworth Road, but the boss was thrilled to attract his main targets to the club in plenty of time too.

He added: “It’s good to have it early, but it’s got to be the right ones, that’s what pleased us.

“We sat down with Gary (Sweet) at the end of the season and we looked at possible targets, which we’ve been really, really pleased that more or less whoever we’ve really gone for has worked for us.

“You always have your main two and your two underneath, but I’ve been really pleased with the recruitment side and it’s probably the busiest summer for me.

“I was away with my family and for a wedding, but I probably spent as much time as I did on the phone as I did in the bar, and I understand the reasons why we needed to make that little change over.

“So it was quite a hard summer, but it’s an enjoyable part of it, I love the wheeling and dealing.”
