Hylton believes Town can go one better than Oxford

The 27-year-old forward was part of a fine season at the Kassam Stadium as they won promotion to League One after finishing in the final automatic spot.

Having decided to turn down the U’s and head to Kenilworth Road though, when asked to compare the two groups of personnel, Hylton believes Luton have the potential to better his former side’s finish, saying: “In terms of ability in the squad, it’s real similar.

“If I was to pick, I wouldn’t be able to do it, there’s some great ability in that Oxford team as there is in this team.

“It’s tough, we thought we played really well last season, we thought we were the best team in the league, we only got promoted by one point on the last game of the season.

“So it is tough, but the players that we have here, if we’re on it every day and every game, and we work as hard as we have been, I do believe we will be able to emulate that and hopefully go one better.”

On just what it will take for Town to lift the title this year, Hylton continued: “You have to be on it every day, I don’t think you can come in Monday to Thursday, go through the motions then turn up on the Friday and try and turn it on in time for Saturday.

“I don’t mean this disrespectfully, but I don’t think people, or myself, are good enough to just turn it on and off like a tap.

“Myself and everyone else need to be on it every single day now, so that on a Saturday we’re ready.

“You can’t get complacent, we’re at it in training, the gaffer won’t let us take our foot off it so as long we stay like that we can be successful.”

On Hylton’s impact since joining Town, boss Nathan Jones said: “He’s the player I knew he was, he’s been a revelation, only scored one in pre-season which he’s probably disappointed about, but I’m not.

“Because he’ll get goals, he’s in the box, how he leads the line, how he links with others, his work-rate, his enthusiasm, he’s exactly what I knew he would be and I love him.”
