Hylton urges Hatters to stay on front foot after conceding

Hatters striker Danny Hylton has urged his side to show a far better reaction after going a goal down during the impending League Two season than they did last weekend.

In their final warm-up match against Walsall on Saturday, the visitors scored the only goal of the game moments after the break, when Simeon Jackson pounced on Stephen O’Donnell’s horrific back header.

Although Hylton himself had a goal ruled out for offside midway through the second period, Luton never really looked like getting back into the game, and the striker knows they must remain positive when it happens during the serious stuff.

He said: “After we conceded the early goal in the second half I thought it killed us a little bit, but we shouldn’t let it affect us so much.

“There’s no better time than pre-season for that to happen, so we have to make sure in the season if we do go a goal down, as we will at times, that we stay on the front foot and we react and we lift ourselves.

“There’s some good signs, we lost, but I thought we played really well in the first half.

“It was one of those games, there wasn’t many chances on both sides. I’m just a bit disappointed that when we went down we didn’t really react and continue doing what we were doing in the first half.”

Fellow summer signing Jordan Cook also knows Hatters have to be much better when the opposition have opened the scoring.

He said: “It was a bit weird really, once they’d scored, I thought it turned really slow and that’s not how we want to do it.

“Credit to Walsall, they got the goal and they didn’t really press as much as they were before.

“In a team like that, when you’re playing the diamond, you’ve got to make chances and break them down and that’s something we’ve got to work on.

“But the team is full of talent and I think we’ll definitely, definitely do that.”

Hylton is more than confident the squad put together by boss Nathan Jones will have no problems in managing to break opposition sides down though, particularly at Kenilworth Road, where he expects sides to be on the defensive.

He said: “I think teams will come down here and set up quite negative, set up on the counter attack, put everyone behind the ball.

“We’re going to have to be better, break teams down, there’s more than enough in that changing room that I know we can do that.

“It’s going to happen but we know we’re going to have to be better at times.”
