Jones doesnt want any '˜hard luck' stories for Luton

After going out of the Checkatrade Trophy at the hands of Oxford United 3-2 on Wednesday night in a match that Luton fought back from 2-0 down to level at 2-2 late on, it leaves them with their main aim of going up to League One to play for.

Town head to Yeovil tomorrow, four points behind third placed Carlisle United with a game in hand, as Jones said: “It’s going to be a real good end to the season as we’ve now got one thing to concentrate on and we have to go after that.

“It was a good night (Tuesday) in terms of results, but now we can’t be a hard luck story, we can’t be naive.

“We have one goal where we go after something and we have to have a clinical edge to us, have a killer edge to us. Any side that comes here or any side that we go to, we must put to the sword as that’s our one goal for the season.”

The Luton chief didn’t think there would be any problem in motivating the players for the trip to Huish Park despite the disappointment of missing out on a trip to Wembley.

However, he did warn his players to make sure they are totally switched on from the start, saying: “It won’t be difficult, this is our one goal this season to get promoted and that’s what we have to do.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity on the weekend, but when we had an emotional cup tie here (Kenilworth Road) with Aston Villa, that was a Wednesday and we played Yeovil two days later really, and we lacked a bit of energy. We can’t afford to do that.

“We know we’re a good side when we play with tempo and we’re on the front foot and we’re winning headers and we’re dominant in things that we do, but we’ve got to be like that all the time.

“We can’t just sit back and can’t just wait for things to happen. When we’re at it, we’re a good side

“We’ve got a free week next week so we’ll rest them up but they’ve got to be ready again to go on Saturday because it’s a big, big game.”

Jones himself spent seven years with the Glovers during his playing career, and asked for his thoughts on a return to his former club, added: “I’m looking forward to getting three points, there’s no sentiment or anything now in going back there.

“I’ll see some good people there, but I’m just concentrating on football really, that’s all.”
