Jones: Lawless is still part of my plans

Midfielder Alex Lawless remains part of Luton Town boss Nathan Jones' plans according to the manager himself.

The 31-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, had looked to have cemented his place in Jones’ thinking, after playing every single minute of the new chief’s first five games.

He then missed the AFC Wimbledon defeat due to injury, but was back against Hartlepool and York, before being replaced at Bootham Crescent on the hour mark and hasn’t played since then, restricted to a role on the subs bench.

When asked if he was still in Jones’ mind going forward, the boss said: “Of course, he’s been unlucky. I’ve spoken to Alex on a couple of occasions, and he’s been close to playing.

“But we felt we need certain things, he’s a bit of an all-rounder Alex and can do a little bit of everything.

“In the shape we’ve played, he’s just missed out narrowly, and that’s no consolation for him.

“He’s very much in my plans in terms of the squad we have here, he’s done well for me generally. He had one probably mediocre game by his standards at York, and since then we went on a bit of a run.

“So he was unfortunately really but he’s a great lad, a great pro and one we like here.”
