Jones not judging Argyle over summer business

Pilgrims boss Derek Adams signed 14 new players after losing out in the play-off final to AFC Wimbledon, while striker Reuben Reid and club captain Curtis Nelson were amongst a number who left the club too.

When asked if he thought the Argyle could find it difficult to integrate all the new additions ahead of this afternoon’s clash, Jones said: “I hope so, but that doesn’t concern me, Plymouth are Plymouth, I wouldn’t want to comment on them.

“Derek Adams know what he doing, he’s a more experienced manager than I am, so I’ve got no interest in what Plymouth are doing.

“It’s about what we can do and how we can affect them. Now if it takes them one league game for them to integrate then I’ll be very, very happy.

“But I’m not going to second judge them and Plymouth do their business how they do their business.”

Despite the upheaval at Argyle, boss Adams recently penned a new deal and Jones is anticipating a tough first encounter against a side well backed for promotion this term.

He continued: “It’s a difficult fixture, be under no illusions about that, they were last years play-off losing finalists, they’ve recruited quite a few, lost one or two, but kept the bulk of things and still got very, very good players.

“The manager now knows the league, he’s had another year, he’s a year ahead of where he was last year.

“So it will be a very difficult fixture, add journey and the weekend traffic and so on, but we’re ready, our preparations have been geared towards this.”

Hatters have a good recent record at Home Park, winning 1-0 on the last two visits, with Jack Marriott scoring the winner last term, as Luton held on to their lead with a fine defensive display.

Jones didn’t think that would bear any relevance to this afternoon’s outcome, adding: “I’d settle for the same result, but i think it will be a different game.

“We were in the feeling stage at the game and finding out what kind of side we really were.

“I thought we played very, very well, a bit of magic from Paddy McCourt and Jack Marriott that opened them up and then from then on, we defended very, very well and became a counter attacking side.

“We’re not quite that now as we want to impose ourselves on games a bit more, but I would settle for a 1-0 win right now.”
