Striker Freddie Hinds scored twice as the Luton youngsters won 2-1 at Shrewsbury Town to complete a stunning season which saw them take the Youth Alliance South East League title and reach the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals too.

Jones said: “They’ve been superb, and to be fair, Drives wasn’t as enthusiastic about the win as us because I think the performance level wasn’t at the normal standard.

“But it’s a final and the only thing that matters in a final is the result. He’s done really, really well, fantastically well and even in some games where they’ve played outstanding, they haven’t picked up the result they would have wanted, so sometimes it’s nice not to play well and get the result, it shows you are good side deep down.

“Anyone can have off days, but results have been superb. He’s producing young players, won everything they could near enough this season. So it’s been a great great season for the U18s, for Paul Driver, for the players and for the club.”
