Jones urges Hatters to enjoy playing at home

Hatters currently possess the fourth worst home record in League Two having won just three games in front of their own fans all season, drawing four and losing six.

Their last victory on home soil came back on November 13 against Barnet, some four matches ago, as speaking ahead of today’s clash with Notts County, Jones said: “It’s another very very tough game. They just changed their manager, the same time as myself, he’ll have an impact, have a style of play and League Two games have such a competitive edge and a closeness of all the teams.

“Games can go either way, we’re prepared for a real, real stern test and are expecting that, but are also looking forward to it. I want us to enjoy playing at home, wants fans to turn out, want them to see what we’re doing and want to see a team that they’re proud of.

“I keep reiterating that, we saw little bits of a base appearing (against Mansfield) and hopefully we can cement a few more blocks.”

Town’s recent signing Alan Sheehan was with Notts County earlier in the season on loan, but when asked if he had discussed the Magpies with the Irishman, Jones joked: “I can’t understand what he says if I’m honest. I haven’t really spoken too much about it, they’ve got a good squad, good individuals but we’re concentrating on us.

“I know what Notts County will bring, so will try and prepare for that but we’re also going to try and be Luton Town

“You can go back to history and size, I’ve played at Notts County, we’re all in the same league. we’re all scrapping for the points.”

When asked about the match against his former club, Sheehan said: “I had three seasons there, was captain there for a long time, so it’s a team that I think of very dearly.

“But I’m a Luton Town player and I’ll be giving everything I can in every game like I tried to show on Saturday.”

Despite making over 250 professional appearances, Sheehan is yet to step out on the Kenilworth Road surface, as he added: “I’ve never played there before would you believe it. It’s meant to be a good crowd, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
