Hatters boss Nathan Jones has urged his side to become an '˜outstanding' team at Kenilworth Road ahead of three games on home soil in the space of just seven days.

Town entertain former Premier League side Aston Villa in the EFL Cup first round this evening, before hosting Yeovil Town in League Two on Saturday and then Newport County the following Tuesday.

Luton struggled badly at home last season, winning just seven league matches, while Jones himself has only tasted victory four times there in 11 games.

The Town chief believes his side are more than capable of flourishing in front of their supporters though as he said: “We’re looking forward to playing at home, I believe we can build a side that enjoys playing at home and I want to start that, I really do.

“I think our away form is outstanding, and I want our home form to be outstanding.

“If we can get them both outstanding, then ultimately we’ll be outstanding.

“We keep saying the fans are vital at Kenilworth Road and we need to improve our form there.

“This is a little bit of a distraction, a cup atmosphere, a night game, television cameras and so on.

“The Villa game is a good game, one of three, as we’ve got two big ones after that.

“This one will be classed as a big, big game, but the other two are very big, probably more important to us. But we take each game as it comes and treat each game with the importance it deserves.”

Hatters have one of the biggest ties available to them at this stage against a side who were plying their trade in the top flight last season.

However, Jones is relishing the test as he wants to be playing the likes of Villa on a regular basis in the not too distant future.

The boss continued: “I want to win the game, I want to beat Aston Villa, I’d like to do it playing our game and as long as we do that, whatever people think, people think.

“As long as I’m happy and we win the game, that’s the main thing.

“We’re not looking just to put on a show, we’re looking to win the game against a very difficult opposition.

“Because Villa are two leagues above us, were three but we’re looking to close that gap as soon as we can in terms of levels we play at.”
