Judge sentences United to defeat with his treble

A HAT-TRICK from Matthew Judge helped Dunstable Town to a 5-2 win against Biggleswade United at Creasey Park in Tuesday night’s Dudley Latham Memorial Cup (Premier Division Cup) second round tie.

Having drawn 4-4 in the league the last time the two played, this Bedfordshire derby was also goal-packed. After a relatively calm opening 25 minutes, an error from United keeper Adam Lawrence saw his roll out intercepted and a cross was put in for the unmarked Judge to score.

And two more quick goals saw Town lead 3-0 at the break.

An ineffective clearance resulted in centre-half Dean Hitchcock volleying home and a minute later Daniel Hutchins sweetly converted a free-kick from just outside the area.

Playing a largely second string side, Dunstable experimented and their triple substitution seemed to affect their rhythm as Biggleswade fought back admirably, with former Blue Tunde Aderonmu outstanding.

Biggleswade pulled one back when Aderonmu’s angled shot travelled along the goal-line before being blasted into the net by James Honeyman.

Garry Duncan then produced a fine close-range save before United’s pressure told when substitute Ibrahim Fuseini scored a second.

But the game was wrapped up when Judge scored the goal of the night, a magnificent solo effort with a finish from an acute angle.

He then completed his hat-trick three minutes from time as Dunstable progressed into the next round where they will face either Stotfold or Hatfield Town.

On Saturday the Blues went down to their first Molten Spartan SML Premier defeat of the season as they lost 2-1 at Broxbourne Borough.

Nick Leach had given Dunstable the lead with his first goal for the club but the hosts hit back with two second half goals to triumph.

This weekend Dunstable host Stotfold in the league and then entertain Haringey Borough on Tuesday night.
