Ladies Football round-up: AFC reach the summit

AFC Dunstable went top of Eastern Region Women’s League One South with a 4-3 win over Royston on Sunday.

The hosts started strongly as Dionne Manning was a constant threat, while Tracey Blake went close to scoring.

Royston broke the deadlock, but AFC responded immediately as Chelsea Forde’s pass saw Manning produce a first-time finish.

It was then 2-1 as Manning was fouled on the edge of the box and Forde netted an unstoppable free-kick.

AFC were soon in the driving seat when Manning played a superb one-two with Charlotte South who fired into the net.

In the second period, it was 4-1 when Manning latched on to a Steph Fisher’s cross to score her second.

AFC had chances to widen the gap with Manning again going close after good work from the returning Samaria Khan. Forde was also off target as Royston rallied with two goals, but AFC held on.

Dunstable now lead C&K Basildon Res by two points and host Baldock Town this weekend.

Crawley Green belied their position to hold Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire County Girls & Women’s League Open-Age Division Three leaders St Martins to a goalless draw on Sunday.

Player of the match Tiffany Johnson was a rock in the defence, while there were fine performances from keeper Zoe Nemeht, Shenel Chapman, Marrina Simoase and 55-year-old Fiona Neto.

Holly Kemp and Taylor Coffee kept St Martins out too with some fine marking and there were also some commanding performances by Sammy Joiner, captain Shiv Collingwood, plus Chantell Joseph.

Striker Yasmin Wacey was a constant threat up front too as Crawley visit Leverstock Green this weekend.

Luton Town were beaten 6-3 at Norwich City in their South East Combination clash on Sunday.

Centre-back Anne Folan had to go in goal after an injury to Hollie Staples as Town scored through Rachel Kosky (2) and Jess McKay, while they also had a goal disallowed.

Town travel to Brentwood a week on Sunday.

The Reserves were knocked out of the Memorial Cup after a 4-0 defeat at Headstone.

They host Enfield Town Res in the London & SE Regional Women’s League and Greater London Women’s League Division One this weekend.
