Late strike sends Oakley back to summit

AFC Oakley M&DH climbed back to the top of the Premier Division supported by Sportsform with a 2-1 victory at AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College on Saturday.

It came thanks to an 89th minute winning strike from Shaun Barnett. Earlier in the game Jason Goldman had netted for the new league leaders against a home reply from Laurie Allen.

They overtook Renhold United who sat the afternoon out.

For third place Wilstead it was a sixth win on the bounce with a thumping 11-2 home victory over bottom of the table Elstow Abbey. Stuart Robson, Colin Marshall, Tom Stonehouse and Michael Jones all scored twice to go alongside single strikes from Matt Davidson, Alex Russell and Paul Jones while the Abbey replies came via Dean Leydon and Shaun Cafferty.

Sixth place Marston Shelton Rovers were gifted three points when second from bottom of the table Eastcotts AFC failed to raise a side to meet them at Weston Park. This kept them ahead of seventh place Shefford Town & Campton who returned to winning ways with a 4-0 home win over Sharnbrook, Andrew Hayday netting twice alongside single strikes from Jordan Cleghorn and Samuel Mastrachiev to do the damage.

Now in seventh spot are Ampthill Town Reserves who also returned to winning league ways, their first for eight outings by winning 3-1 at Cranfield United. Carl Ramsey, Ian Buckingham and Connor Saunders were on their scoresheet against one in reply from Max Marshall for the home side.

Also enjoying life on the road were third from bottom of the table Caldecote who won 2-0 at Ickwell & Old Warden. Ahead in the 21st minute via Nick Thomas, who had only replaced the injured Carl Heath two minutes earlier, the points were theirs after Nicky Albone doubled the scoreline 10 minutes into the second half.

For league leaders Sundon Park Rangers it was a 5-3 away victory at second from bottom of the table Houghton Athletic. Shaka Anderson led the way with a hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Kwaku Aning and Matthew Conway to bring up the nap hand against home replies via Jordan Thomas, Alex Igori and Jason Blake.

Second place Stevington remain unbeaten on home soil this season after beating fourth place Meltis Albion 2-1. Daniel Bentley and Joe Kvilums on their scoresheet against a lone Albion reply from Carl Townsend.

Elsewhere Queens Park Crescents remain in fourth spot after being held to a 1-1 home draw by AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Reserve, Daniel Rasol netting for the Crescents and Keegan Roberts for the Town.

Whilst now in sixth are Potton Town who won 5-1 at Shefford Town & Campton Reserves thus ending Town’s three game winning home run. Chris Cooper and Tom Pyman both hit braces and were joined on the scoresheet by Chris Moore to bring up the nap hand against a lone reply from Liam Chalkley.

Meantime Henlow failed to make it six home wins on the bounce when held to a 2-2 draw by now third from bottom of the table Riseley Sports. Matthew Standen scored both home goals against replies via James Cooke and Jonnie Simmons.

The Sportsmen were leapfrogged in the table by Westoning who thanks to a lone goal from Sam Roberts were 1-0 home winners over bottom of the table AFC Oakley M&DH Reserves.

Division Two

Cople & Bedford SA now find themselves three points clear at the head of division two after emerging 5-4 winners at Kempston Athletic. Ollie Hughes with a hat-trick was joined on the scoresheet by Gary Canzano and Ashlee Banton to bring up the nap hand against home replies from Nicholas Emene twice plus Gavin Matthews and Richie Andrews.

Whilst third place Clapham Sports placed themselves right in the championship hunt by retaining their 100% home record and chalking up win number eight on the bounce with a 4-0 victory over second place Cranfield United Reserves. Grant Williams with a brace plus single goals from Liam Bolton and Nathan O’Halleron did the damage.

Following eight straight away defeats lowly Meltis Abion Reserves returned to winning ways on the road with a 2-1 victory at Sandy Reserves who are now only above Albion on goal difference. Matt Bailey and Adam Cranney were on the Albion scoresheet against a lone home reply from Marcus Ingham.

Division Four

Mid Beds Tigers duly claimed the 2015-16 season division four league title by sharing the spoils in a 0-0 draw at third place Caldecote A - who in taking their own unbeaten ways up to nine games will now do battle with Bedford Albion for that second automatic promotion spot.

Monday

Division One supported by Wests Citroen Bedford

A lone goal from William Penney saw Stevington beat Ickleford 1-0 to retain their unbeaten home record and move onto the top of the Division One supported by Wests Citroen League Table.

Division Two

Kempston Athletic v Athletico Europa’s game at Cutler Hammer was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
