Lee believes he is getting better and better under Jones

The 24-year-old, who was signed by previous boss John Still, spoke in glowing terms about the training programmes put on by Jones since he moved to Kenilworth Road from Brighton in January and feels both he and the team are already reaping the benefits.

Lee said: “Personally I’ve really enjoyed it, I feel like I’ve improved every week under him and he’s making me a better player.

“That’s what you want as a player and all the lads have really reacted well to him, so hopefully it’s good times ahead.

“Training’s been brilliant, I feel that I’m getting better and I feel as a team we’re getting better every week.

“There’s more team cohesion, we’re looking like a better side. You can see the structure he’s set up, the way we want to play, so I think it’s onwards and upwards from here. He’s always demanding more from us and that’s what we want.

“Obviously we’re all in League Two for a reason and we want to push this club up.

“That’s what the fans and the club want and that’s what he demands more from us too.”

When Jones first came in, Lee had to wait for his chance, spending the first three games on the bench.

However, he returned to the starting line-up against Yeovil Town and hasn’t missed a match since, as he continued: “It was frustrating to be out of the side for a couple of games, but I always thought if I can get my head down work hard I’ll get back in.

“I’m glad that the gaffer gave me my chance and hopefully I can keep repaying him.

“It’s been nice to have a settled side and get better understanding as it’s all about little partnerships all over the pitch.

“Hopefully throughout the season they’ll get better and better.”

Lee has an important role in the way that Jones has set Town up to play now, taking on the modern quarter-back position, picking up the ball from the back four and getting Town on the front foot.

The former West Ham and Birmingham player believes it is his best position too, saying: “It suits me down to the ground to be honest.

“As soon as the gaffer came in and was talking about passing and playing out from the back, that’s what I’m all about, that’s what I want to be doing, getting on the ball and hopefully starting attacks.

“The gaffer’s doing everything right that I enjoy doing and I enjoy playing for him.

“I need to keep improving on my defensive work and hopefully I can keep pushing the team on.”

When asked about Lee’s displays since coming back into the side, Jones added: “He still needs to improve, we want defensive midfielders to be more than one who just sits there and gets the ball.

“A defensive midfield player screens and wins tackles, and heads and is defensively compact and covers, and orchestrates and speeds the game up, all these things.

“He’s going to need to tick a lot of boxes in that role, because it isn’t just an easy role where he’s sitting there.

“Anyone who thinks it is, is delusional, because it’s a really key role.

“But he’s doing well and little by little he’s improving.

“The fact he’s technically very, very proficient means the goals he’s scored this year have been excellent goals.

“So we’re happy with him, but we feel here, we’re a developing club and we feel Olly’s the type that we can develop.

“He has good attributes, a good education where he’s come from and we’re happy to have him, but he will get better.”
