Lee confident that Luton can claim another Championship scalp

Town midfielder Olly Lee is confident his side can reach the EFL Cup third round by knocking out Championship side Leeds United at Kenilworth Road this evening.

The former West Ham and Birmingham player was part of the side who defeated Aston Villa in the last round 3-1 and on Luton’s chances of progressing tonight, he said: “Obviously, on the night, you hope for that little bit of luck, things going your way, but I feel we can give Leeds a really good game.

“It’s one we’re looking forward to. All the lads want to play at a higher level, we want to take Luton to a higher level, so it’s nice to test ourselves against Championship opposition and we feel we’re more than good enough to beat them.”

Lee also believes that coming up against a side who might look to match Hatters’ passing style of football, rather than adopt a defensive approach as most League Two clubs have done this term, could benefit the hosts.

He continued: “It probably suits us better. It suits me personally, playing a football match rather than the kick-it-long in League Two, but you’ve got to mix it as well, you’ve got to do both sides.

“We can do the rough and tumble bit and we can play football as well, so we’ve got both.”

The midfielder doesn’t believe his side will be too downhearted ahead of the game after seeing their unbeaten run go at Stevenage on Saturday either, with a late 2-1 defeat.

He added: “It’s one game, it’s still early doors, we’re still right up there and we’ve got to stay positive.

“We won’t let one defeat get us down, there are going to be a lot of ups and downs this season and hopefully there are more ups than downs.

“Obviously, we’d like to get going in the league and get another win but we just want to keep playing games.

“We’re all confident, we know what we’re capable of and we just want to keep rattling off the games. It doesn’t matter if it’s league or cup, we just want to win games.
