Jones is up against Chris Wilder (Northampton), Neal Ardley (AFC Wimbledon) and Kevin Nolan (Leyton Orient) for the gong after Town won three, drew one and lost one game from the five matches played.

The winner is announced tomorrow morning, but on being in the running, Jones said: “I don’t think it is an individual award. I know it’s cliched, yes it’s nice to be recognised, but it’s our work that gets recognised, not my work.

“If you’re getting recognised for these individual things, then it means that collectively you’re doing things right.

“Because if you’re not getting results collectively then individuals don’t get those kinds of awards.

“So it’s nice to be recognised. I’m not one to be coy about things and just say ‘well it’s just another one of those things.’ It’s nice and I appreciate that, but it’s a collective group and to be honest it shows that collectively we’re doing things very, very well and picking up results as a team.

“Then that puts you in the spotlight if you like and pushes you forward for these things.

“It’s a group effort though, it’s what the team have been doing. The team have got results, so certain individuals get recognised and I’m very appreciative of what my staff and squad are doing at the minute because then it puts you in for these kinds of things.”
