The 18-year-old is in the final three with Hakeem Odoffin (Wolves) and Ben Godfrey (Norwich City), with the winner announced next month.

Jones, who handed Musonda his Town debut against Mansfield Town recently, said: “It just goes to reiterate what we’re trying to do here.

“It’s all right these things are put in place, what we’re doing now is just trying to continue and give them that pathway into the first team.

“There are some great young players here, and he’s up for apprentice of the year which is a real good accolade.

“I had Jordan Cousins at Charlton who had apprentice of the year. Jordan’s gone on and really, really done well, he was fantastic for me when I had him and now he’s Charlton’s captain.

“So it’s a great start and shows one, you’re diligent, two you’re hard working and three, you’re talented.

“We’re very proud of that, very proud of the awards because it shows we’re doing good work here.

“We believe we’re doing good work but to be recognised outside is very, very good and we’re proud of that.”
