The on-loan Brighton stopper has been in hugely impressive form since making his debut between the posts, but was beaten by a corner from Jennison Myrie-Williams in midweek, with the winger’s set-piece flying straight through his attempted punch.

However, midfielder Cameron McGeehan said: “Chris will learn from his mistake. He’s a top keeper and you’ve seen it in most games, he’s saved us points, he’s jumped up and caught all the balls in the air.

“It’s good that he’s gotten away with (against Newport) and we’ve all got away with it because helpfully he won’t do that again and he’ll kick on and be the top keeper that I think he will be.

“He’s from Brighton and we’re lucky to have him as there’s a lot of young players so there are going to be mistakes.

“Obviously, when he makes a mistake it’s a goal, normally, but we all make mistakes.

“Personally, I don’t think I won my personal battle in the first half, I got done a couple of times but that’s being a young player, I’ll learn.

“He’s been top notch and he’ll be priceless for us this season though, I think he’ll save us a lot of points.

“He’s a good lad as well, a good pro and I think, when his time is done here, he’ll probably be playing in the Championship or in the Premier League when he’s a bit older.”
