Luton pair amongst the favourites for League Two golden boot

Hatters strikers Jack Marriott and Danny Hylton are both among the favourites to finish as the division's leading scorer this season.

The pair are tipped at 14/1 by the league sponsors Sky Bet to win the golden boot, with Leyton Orient forward Jay Simpson leading the market after netting 25 goals in all competitions last term.

Marriott, who notched 16 times for club in his first campaign last year, has hit the ground running with an impressive pre-season to date, netting five times, including a hat-trick against Bedford Town.

Hylton has only found the net once, that a penalty against the Eagles, but has impressed greatly in the friendlies, showing signs of forming an real partnership with Marriott.

On a prolific link up with his fellow frontman, Hylton said: “We hope so, Jack’s a good player, he’s lively, a proper striker, a fox in the box.

“We’ll try to do well whoever plays upfront, there’s some good forwards here.

“Josh (McQuoid), young Zane (Banton), Vass (Isaac Vassell), there’s some good competition that keeps everyone on their toes.

“When you play you have to do the business, have to try and score, have to try and create, have to play well, if you’re not someone’s ready to step in.”

Fellow summer addition Jordan Cook has been enthused by the pairing that are expected to lead the line for Town at Plymouth on Saturday, although feels the club have plenty of other goal threats too.

He added: “I think they look good, they complement each other quite well.

“Danny’s a good target man, but works so hard and Jack’s a clinical finisher.

“He’s very clever with his movement and you’ve got players like Cameron (McGeehan) and Pelly (Mpanzu) behind him. He’s (Pelly) just an athlete, while Cameron is always on the front foot, trying to score too.”

“Hopefully I can just add to those players and help those players really push on, so hopefully they can help me push on as well.”
