The 42-year-old has been in charge of the Chairboys since September 24, 2012, but is priced at 12/1 with BetVictor to replace John Still.

When asked about the Luton job, Ainsworth said: “I’m flattered to be thought of in that way. I will give my all for Wycombe Wanderers and that’s on and off the pitch, the lads will reflect that.

“It’s great to be linked, every manager loves that, if you’re not you’re at the wrong end of the table.

“I’ve got a job to do at Wycombe, I’m very happy with the chairman Andrew Howard, he’s got a lot of faith in me. They stuck with me in the season we nearly went down, so there’s a good mutual respect there.”
