Both the three points, and indeed the performance, were long overdue for John Still’s side who remain 33/1 with BetVictor to be champions and 6/1 to be playing League One football next season.

One game doesn’t turn a season around however and the Hatters will need to replicate the effort shown in south London when travelling to Crawley in the first round of the FA Cup at the weekend.

Crawley are two points behind Luton in the league, and five places, but remain outsiders for honours this term where Luton remain 2/1 dark horses with BetVictor to acquire a top-seven berth this term.

The cup could prove a welcome distraction from the Hatters’ struggles in the league and they head to the Broadfield Stadium as the 11/8 favourites to turn the Reds over in their own back yard, the hosts 21/10 underdogs and the draw 5/2.

It remains to be seen whether or not John Still runs the changes at the weekend but irrespective of what team lines-up one who still have to fancy Luton to qualify for the second round (4/7 favourites v Crawley 13/8) and whilst perhaps unlikely to go all the way, 5000/1 with BetVictor, it would be no surprise to see them go on something of a cup run.

With confidence once again restored in the Hatters’ defence they should be able to progress with ease and they appeal at both 10/3 to win the game to nil and 3/1 with BetVictor to be leading at both half/time and indeed full/time.
